The Night where Ness got called a Dipstick

Last night I got called a 'dipstick' on Twitter by someone I do not know because apparently I should have checked my facts before “mouthing off”.

The irony is, is that a lot of New Zealanders (including journalists, radio broadcasters and even an All Black; not part of the RWC squad) spoke up at their frustrating that a particular TV network did not show the live presentation of the 100th test match cap to Mils Muliaina after last night’s RWC match.

Instead we ended up watching some post-match analysis and interviews. I guess I was confused (along with others) as we had watched the full presentation to McCaw of his cap by Jock Hobbs.  So what was different in this instance? Or did I miss something?

So after a bit of digging on the net I now realise that the TV network was under particular obligations for post-match interviews at the same time as the presentation was taking place. You can read the article on Stuff here plus all the assorted comments. Nevertheless, if this was the case then why not start the presentation straight after the post-match interviews?? Okay, after watching the bit from Campbell Live I understand a bit more about the "world feed"; how they decided the world would not want to see a brief capping ceremony is beyond me. But there you go.

What I actually resent is being told off in a public forum for a tweet on my personal twitter page which simply reflected what a lot of New Zealanders were already thinking. To be honest if other New Zealanders, journalists and even rugby players themselves commented about it publicaly on Twitter etc.…then surely there are a lot of people that have not checked “their facts” or were confused about what had occured and why.

So ultimately, I might be a dipstick but at least I know that I was not alone in expressing my disgust. By the way…at least my team is still in the contest. #JustSayin'

P.S. I certainly think that the TV network in question have their big boy panties on and can defend themselves against people's opinions.

Week 40 – w/c Saturday 1st October, 2011

Saturday (01/10/11) ~Went to the gym and then to visit my parents. Then raced to CafĂ© Crave in Kingsland to catch up with Lou, Niamh etc. Had the most AMAZING cheese scone and then onto Newmarket to see a friend that I haven’t seen for such a long time. Busy, but amazing day. No photo.

Sunday (02/10/11) ~ Pretty much spent the day relaxing in bed with the cats and watching TV.

Monday (03/10/11) ~ Mark home from Wellington; nice to see him! Went on a mad dash to the Laundromat to wash and dry all the bed linen etc.  Here are the cats and the bear enjoying the freshly made bed.

Tuesday (04/10/11) ~ Gym first thing and then I discovered Pita Pit’s new Newmarket branch. No photo.

Wednesday (05/10/11) ~ I went to Pita Pit for lunch (again) and then went and ate at the Domain as it was a beautiful spring day. I watched the end of Kinky Boots and then Just Right. I am totally committed to getting my iTunes sorted so that every song has its BPM. I have about 400 songs updated out of almost 2,200.

Thursday (06/10/11) ~ I had a quick gym session in the morning and then a catch up with the Delish girls at lunch time. Beautiful day! No photo.

Friday (07/10/11) ~ TGIF. Pita Pit for lunch and bumped into Bec and Dan. Then went to the Domain to eat and read. Watched some TV in bed and Daisy slept.

Personal Space and 2 months, 19 days

I was in Pita Pit (my new favourite place) the other day and it was really busy. There was a huge line that was almost out the door. As the line moved toward the counter I realised the woman behind me was really in my personal space.

While I am a really physical person and I love hugs I hate strangers being in my personal space. I hate it in shops, at the supermarket and in public. Oh and I do feel overwhelmed when I am in a crowd; a far cry from being sandwiched into the Super Top with a huge crowd watching the Chemical Brothers perform at the Big Day Out.

Now I do not know if it is because I am overweight or whether I would feel that way if I was smaller. I guess I am always conscious of how much room I take up and I try to move through crowds without brushing up against people, or encroaching on their personal space. Essentially, I try and make myself be as ‘small as possible’. I also look at spaces that I need to move through and gauge whether I will fit through. If not, then I look for the alternative route.

What I do not understand is how people can have NO CLUE that they are invading people’s personal space. It just makes me really annoyed and frustrated especially when I move away from them and then they move to take up the excess space. Then I am back at the start with them in my personal space again. Even side glances (or glaring) at them does not even seem to make a difference. Are people just not aware that sometimes they are just too close? Or am I just being a Drama Queen?

What do you do when strangers get in your personal space?

In other news my personal trainer informed me that it’s about 11 weeks until Christmas and it is my choice how much weight I lose before then. So will it be 11kg or 22kg? Yesterday, she gave me an outline of what I should be eating throughout the day based on exercising 4 times per week. So I am going to try and stick to that and for the next few weeks cut out the treats and pasta.

Eating breakfast is a huge issue for me as I struggle between wanting sweet (i.e. cereal and fruit) vs. savoury (poached eggs and English muffins). I have no idea why some mornings only savoury will do?

What is your favourite breakfast option during the work week?

Week 39 – w/c Saturday 24th September, 2011

Saturday (24/09/11) ~Went to the gym and then to visit my parents. Had a bit of a “blah” afternoon and then had dinner and watched the French vs. All Blacks game at Raewyn’s house. No photo.
Sunday (25/09/11) ~ First day of daylight savings time and I slept late. Went up to Raewyn’s to talk about photos for Trade Me. Made pancakes for lunch and had a flat white. Watched recorded TV for the rest of the day and then finally I sorted out our monthly organiser for gym sessions and dinners.

Monday (26/09/11) ~ Busy day at work with two client meetings. I made Garden Lasagne to freeze for lunches and dinners. No photo.

Tuesday (27/09/11) ~ Gym first thing and then a quiet morning at work. Lunch at Delish. I made chocolate chip cookies successfully for the first time after I received a fabulously ‘no-fail’ recipe from a gal on Twitter.

Wednesday (28/09/11) ~ Total ‘vege-out’ night. P.S. I am now OVER Garden Lasagne. No photo.

Thursday (29/09/11) ~ Mark flew to Wellington for the weekend to celebrate his dad’s birthday. I love my husband, but I also enjoy my space. No photo.

Friday (30/09/11) ~ Last day of September…scary! No photo.

I don’t want to talk; I am just trying to breathe….

I was talking to a friend and she mentioned joining a gym. The conversation went a bit like this:
I said “perhaps just do a trial and see if you like it”
She replied “I don't like being around people”
I said “that’s what iPod’s are for…..I don’t want to talk; I am just trying to breathe”

I have been a member at my gym for 17 years…heck that is almost half my life. I used to use a CD player to listen to music at the gym. However, it was when I got my first iPod that I realised how important listening to music (while exercising) is to me.

I find music incredibly cathartic and it balances me. I find solace in music and in a way it transports me to another world. It allows me to block out my surroundings and just focus on exercise. If you find the perfect gym “mix” then it is so motivating and I really want to create lists based on beats per minute (BPM) of songs.

Monique has actually summed it up here on the Easy Mix website. I have a pretty good gym mix, but I do want to be able to split it out into low, medium and high intensity. I tried to do this using various BPM analysers, but found it difficult to get the BPM information to automatically update in iTunes. So back to the drawing board!

Another the reason that I like having music at the gym is that I can tune everyone out and not have to speak to people. Being overweight I already feel quite self-conscious and music just helps me distance myself from feeling uncomfortable. My fitness is gradually increasing, but I often cannot do cardio and also talk to people. So in a nutshell “I don’t want to talk; I am just trying to breathe without panting”.

What are your favourite workout songs? Any ideas about getting the BPM automatically updated for my iTunes library for 3,000 songs?

30. w.c. Saturday 23.07.11 to 38. w.e. Friday 23.09.11

I have been totally hopeless with my week/year in photos and I aim to do better!

So to catch up I have done a collage of photos from the past 8 weeks. Once again it is all about cats and food.
