Short and Sweet

I have lots of blogs I want to write, but just do not have the time at the moment. So this is short and sweet just like my cute new haircut.

Yesterday, mum and I went and got our hair cut. I actually had not been to the hairdresser since December 2011. So “yes” Jennifer (our new hairdresser) did tell me off a bit.

I have a love/hate relationship with my hair and do not do much with it. I needed a nice, easy to maintain haircut.

So now I have a lovely new style and a fringe which is great. Jennifer cut some layers into my hair and got rid of a lot of the weight. I am going a bit bald which is really embarrassing so having less weight is awesome.

I think that it was a complete fluke coming across Jennifer. We got a flyer in our mailbox and I put it on the fridge. A few days later mum said “I DESPERATELY” need to get my haircut as it was getting her down and the last hairdresser had done a revolting job with clippers; because obviously my mum is a bloke?!

Anyway, I made a mum-daughter “date” for the Saturday to go and find a hairdresser. Then I got home and thought “Oh. Em. Gee. I have this flyer on the fridge”, so I emailed Jennifer. She called me back later that evening and was lovely. We made a time for the Sunday and I nervously text mum to let her know. We went along and I realised within about 10 seconds that we had made the best decision ever! Mum was so overjoyed and happy with her beautiful haircut that there were nearly tears and she gave Jennifer a big hug. So happy for her.

I have not got a photo of mum's haircut, but I have one of mine. Aside from looking exhausted…what do you think?

P.S. I got a cute new scarf from my mum as well :)

Blogs that I Cannot Live Without

I have realised that so many of my blogs are born from anger or sadness. I want to blog when I have happy things to talk about as well.

I would love to blog about my nephews and nieces but I find it hard to do this without putting a million photos up. Unfortunately, their parents are not really keen about having their photos up online so I tend not to blog about them at all. Perhaps I will find a way around it somehow.

I read a lot of blogs written by New Zealanders, American’s etc. and I love them. They write funny, sad, angry, poignant blogs. I am addicted to reading them and looking at their pictures. There are blogs that make me think, blogs that make me cry, blogs that challenge my own beliefs. These are some that I cannot do without; I love them….they enrich my life (this is not even half of the blogs I read regularly):

People

Pretty Stuff

Animals

Photographers

Last week I noticed that Penguin Books were looking for bloggers to review books. I was really keen and then I realised that I did not think that many people read my blog #SadPanda. I kind of wonder how other bloggers increase their visitor numbers? Write regularly? Shorter blogs? Have cool photos?

Any ideas?~ Because it's all about me!

Things I love….

When I started blogging almost 2 years ago I had so much to say; so much to get out there and so much to get out of my head. Lately I have struggled to blog as regularly as I would like. I do not want to just blog for the sake of blogging, but I do want to keep writing as I enjoy it.

Today we watched Tamara Drewe which is quite an awesome film. There are multiple storylines that all interweave with one another but a lot of it is about writing and relationships. It made me realise that I would love to write a book someday.

I love books. As I sit here writing I can look at my bookshelf and it makes me smile. At this stage I probably need another book shelf as there is the danger of the books on the top reaching the ceiling once more. I grew up as an only child and I found solace in the word of books. I could escape into different worlds and I would become immersed in the world created by the novelist.

I was head librarian at school and I still sort my books regularly and organize them by author/series/number in series. The genre of books that people read is such a personal choice and I do not believe ANYONE has the right to judge people on their reading choices. I read anything from romance, paranormal-romance (“and I was reading this well before Twilight thanks”), chick lit, crime, mystery, cooking books, NZ literature, poetry, plays etc.

I love music. It soothes my soul and makes my heart soar. I listen to music when I am happy, sad, energetic, at the gym etc. I love playing it loud; much to my husband’s horror. If I am down it cheers me up. I love so many different types of music from rock to hip-hop to rap to country. I find rap a little like poetry that is sung.

I love movies. As with books and music I love such a diverse range of films. For me movies are about escapism and enjoyment. I try not to read too much into them and open up my mind to take everything in. If I want to see a film that has received a bad review; I still want to watch it and form my own opinion. Movies do not tend to surprise me a lot as a lot of plots are very similar. However, I love it when a movie comes along that I cannot predict a characters next move. I love anything from romance to action to sci-fi to thriller.

My favourite English teacher at high school once said that if something causes you to have a reaction i.e. happy, sad, angry etc. then it has achieved what it was meant to do. I still remember her words to this day 20 years later.

So perhaps I need to seriously think about writing a book…or even a short story would be nice. Maybe I can do it while listening to rock music.

Note: It goes without saying that I absolutely adore my husband, family, friends, our fur-kitties and other animals.

What do you love?
